Susan Mikula: Photographs, her debut book, was published in 2008. Mikula’s work has been collected in landscape photography collections. She prefers to photograph photos in natural light and avoids using cropping or other image modification techniques. She started her photography career in 2007 and gradually established her style using ancient Polaroid cameras and instant films. Before her first solo show in 1998, she also worked as an art jury member for several contests. Mikula worked as an accountant for the majority of her life, while her art was displayed in group displays. Her camera, like mathematics, aims to strip everything down to its fundamental essence. Her expertise as an accountant contributes significantly to her creativity. This freed her artistic sensitivities from the confines of conventional thinking, which can stifle an artist’s creative process. Mikula did not acquire any official photography training, instead of taught herself the fundamentals of her chosen art. She went to Oxford University to study Politics. She had eventually recovered after battling the disease for nearly 2 weeks. She studied color theory at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, after growing up with an artistic bent. Her affliction was severe and Rachel had felt that she might lose Susan.
